Default GNU Free Call starts development, aims to be a Skype alternative

From http://www.h-online.com/open/news/it...e-1208549.html

Quote:
The GNU Project has announced plans for GNU Free Call which will offer secure communications for use by the general public and aims to be as ubiquitous and usable as the proprietary Skype VOIP service.

[snip]

Unlike Skype, however, this new system will use the peer-to-peer SIP protocol which requires only a simple network. According to the announcement, this will add significantly to the security of communications: there will be no need for any central service provider, no "insecure source secret binary protocols that may have back-doors", and no need for potentially vulnerable network control points.

Is anyone here intending to follow this more closely?

"Sorry sis, but I can't seem to get Skype working on OpenBSD." It's a nice excuse. I guess I wish them luck, but don't tell my family about it.

I thought that GNU already have had such a project on their books. It is called Ekiga.
If people want user friendly SIP client somebody needs to sit down and write a GUI for

If it works on more than just x86/amd64, I would use it.

You did this using Linux emulation on i386 I assume. Not an option for those of us running macppc. Not sure what that quote about diapers is about, whether I'm missing some mano a mano playful sarcasm or if you're really just that much of a dick.
