Default Mozilla introduces the "Web Apps" project

From http://www.h-online.com/open/news/it...t-1202258.html

Quote:
Shortly before the release of the final version of Firefox 4, the Mozilla developers have introduced the "Web Apps" project. These apps are expected to play a major role play in future browsers, and in such a future, the browser will not just be for viewing web pages but will be a platform for locally installed applications.

While I believe that is going to be the future, if Mozilla is involved, I think I'll retire.

Personally, I think a common, much more sane and coherent version of the whole rest/mvc web thing should merge with GUI toolkits, and there no longer be a dinstinction between web app running off a cluster and a program running off ones own computer.

I really don't think the future of applications is the Internet, there will always be a place for reliable local computing environments.. placing all your trust in some 3rd party service is closed minded, and it's definitely not future-proof.

Didn't say the Internet, so much as the technology from making web apps. Web application development done Right often has much to do with (local) application development done right.

The mixture of HTML/CSS/JS and client/server architecture has its uses. If you use X11, even more so it's related to local apps.

That is what XUL and Prism from Mozilla is all about. They've been doing exactly that for years.

Meh, who cares. The internet hype will be over in a couple of years anyway and then no one will care.

Prism is largely limited to being an application specific web browser, turned generic. Chrome can do the same thing. Ditto for many browsers if you want to put in the effort. XUL is a bit more like it but Microsoft's old HTA system is probably closer.

Detailing what I envision is probably better done as a journal entry though, than chatting up in here.

I would seriously disagree with you but it's been too long since I've worked with all that to argue. And I'm too tired.
