While running Gnome without GDM is not recommended, it is possible. See the OpenBSD README discussed previously for instructions on configuring .xinitrc

You tried a number of configuration options - Could there be any left over configuration scripts? An option is to start with a fresh install, make sure you get the radeon firmware and follow the pkg-readme to the letter.

Also think about simplifying your system. For example, choose a single sound card either by disabling the on-board sound chip in the bios or removing the envy card. Pulseaudio is required by Gnome and you may be the first to use it in OpenBSD with multiple sound sources. If you can get things working then add complexity back methodically.

Most of the users in this forum are attracted to OpenBSD because of its simple elegance and try to avoid complexity and bloat.

The GDM greeter log has the following error message:
Code:
Couldn't exec /usr/local/bin/gnome-session: No such file or directory
It appears that there is an incomplete installation of Gnome.

If you want to use Gnome, please, install it via the meta package gnome, and optionally, gnome-extras.

The Gnome 3 desktop environment cannot be utilized without a large number of interdependent components.
