Default Both versions installing in same location, & can't delete

Hello,

Installing from ports at the request of a program being installed
requiring a newer version

===> Installing for mysql-client-5.1.24_1

===> mysql-client-5.1.24_1 conflicts with installed package(s):
mysql-client-4.1.13

They install files into the same place.
Please remove them first with pkg_delete(1).
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports_temp/databases/mysql51-client.
jaymax # pwd
/usr/ports_temp/databases/mysql51-client
---
---
---
jaymax # pkg_delete mysql-client-4.1.13
pkg_delete: package 'mysql-client-4.1.13' is required by these other packages
and may not be deinstalled:
kde-3.5.4
koffice-1.4.1,1
p5-DBD-mysql-3.0007
p5-bioperl-1.5.1
p5-bioperl-run-1.4
ruby18-bio-1.0.0
ruby18-dbd_mysql-0.1.0
ruby18-mysql-2.7.1

What is the solution to this problem?

Thanks!!

use pkg_delete -f mysql-client-4.1.13
use F option for force delete

Or, use a port upgrade tool like ports-mgmt/portmaster which will take care of upgrading the port, and keeping the package database in sync.

Is ports-mgmt/portmaster still in the ports, I could not find it. Is there another source for it?

Thanks

/usr/ports/ports-mgmt/portmaster || http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cg...mt/portmaster/

Are you sure it's not there? How are you updating your ports tree?

Thanks!

Probably a "legacy" issue perhaps, euphemistically. There was a v 1.9 just discovered under /usr/ports/sysutil instead - running vers. 6.0 O/S
