Default Keyboard dead - sometimes, but always in pairs

Sometimes, when logging in, the keyboard is just dead. Somewhere during the boot sequence, all three lights on the keyboard light up and all is well. Other times, there are no lights and I am forced to hard reset, and it always happens for a second time immediately after the first incident. Then, third time lucky, it works. I usually have this issue after restarting from another OS or a X11 crash.

It is just weird that I ALWAYS have to reset twice before my keyboard works again. I have swopped keyboards - same issue. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue?

-amd64 - NetBSD 6.1 - Haswell i5-4430.
