kernel panic (amd64,5.1 release) on Aspire 5750
Hi there i'm new to the forum and OBSD in general, i'm hoping to drop two or three distro installs for OBSD, starting with my notebook.My goal is to run current so i instaled the snapshot and after rebooting it, the kernel panicked, then i installed the release version with the same results.It is worth noting that the installer presented this unusual line in both versions: " uhub0: device problem, disabling port 1" The outputs after install also have been the same but for consistency i'm posting the outputs for the release version:

http://www.openbsd.org/report.html While I understand that putting together a good problem report takes time, I would recommend providing information for both 5.1-release & the snapshot used (including dmesg(8) from the snapshot...). As the dmesg(8) from OpenBSD 5.1-release states, -release was tagged in CVS mid-February. Development on -current (& your snapshot if it is recent...) has continued for another ~3.5 months. Thanks Ocicat for your fast reply and your generous welcome.It is because of BSD's culture of security and coordination (no patchwork and no reinventing unnecessarily ) that i'm trying to replace Linux in favor of OBSD.Particularly what u guys have done with malloc rocks everyone else (i'm an end user so particularly when i read about it got me thinking "wait the other systems are nothing like this, i've gotta try it".Sorry about the terminology though.
Thanks for the pointer this way i can report it as soon as possible The outputs for the versions were exactly the same.The snapshot i used was from 20/05 but there's a new one from 25/05 i'll try that to see if it still persists then provide both. Thanks for your time and best regards |

Thanks for the heads up ocicat and thank you and jggime for the pointers and info.As for the thread, the newest snapshot (25/05) presented the same problem (only with minor adresss diferences) so i reported it upstream.Will post follow up ASAP.

Thanks to Gregory i managed to boot current with no acpi and it works fine for me!!

Most modern PC's will not run if the ACPI code is disabled. They will break in a multitude of other ways, and you are not helping find the bug AT ALL. The least of the problem is that the fan might not run. They might map reigsters wrong. They might map interrupts wrong. They will route interrupts from from behind ppb bridges. Disabling the acpi codebase creates many crazy, crazy, crazy side effects. |
