Default OpenBSD5.9 on a flash card

Hello,

I am running OpenBSD5.9 on a single board computer (SBC). The OS is installed on a flash card. In case of power loss, the OS might get corrupted when restarted and booting would stuck at file system checks (once every about 10-15 times), requiring me to run fsck_ffs.

Previously, I was using OpenBSD4.3 and I was not getting this issue, and I cannot downgrade back to 4.3.

I would appreciate if I can be pointed to the reason of this issue and to a possible solution.

Thanks.

There hasn't been a siginificant change to FFS between 4.3 and 5.9, so perhaps you were just luckier in the past, or perhaps your power was more reliable.

Are you mounting filesystems with soft dependencies? If so, disable that mount option.

---

Please note: OpenBSD 5.9 is not the most recent release, and will be end-of-life and unsupported when OpenBSD 6.1 is released on or about May 1.

Then consider deploying the sync option. This will slow writes, since none will be written asynchronously, but should also reduce your risk of an fsck(8) requiring more than a standard preen action after a power failure.
