Default Weird network problem

I just replaced my Netgear router with Linksys. My freeBSD desktop is set for a static IP 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 defaultrouter 192.168.1.1.

I 100% sure that settings are right as I'm able to access internet ( I.E. ping www.google.com works). The weird thing is

1. when it dynamically receives ip it boots fine, like it normally should but when I assign static IP is gets stuck for 15 to 20 seconds while "enabling SSH" .

2. When it dynamically Receives IP for command "portsnap fetch extract" it finds 3 mirrors but with static ip it finds 0 mirrors. but eventually it will start downloading portsnap from somewhere (main site maybe).

I tried disabling DHCP server of router but no luck.

I need to have a static IP for my BSDbox because of some services.

Could it be a router issue?
I remember a while back when I had Belkin router I remember no matter what I do I won't be able to access internet from my Linux box and as soon as I replace belkin with Netgear every thing worked just fineee.

What IP did you put for the ListenAddress entry in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file?

Is your /etc/resolv.conf populated correctly, and do you have a correct default gateway when not using DHCP?

Also, if you're making up a hostname/static IP (i.e. there is no DNS entry anywhere for it), you'll probably want to add an entry to /etc/hosts.

I had the same problem on 5.4-RELEASE. Network and SSH were configured by the book (or should i say, handbook). The weird thing is, sometimes the thing would hang, sometimes not. On the same hardware, and same setup, i haven't got that issue yet on 7.0-RELEASE.

Looks like DNS issue. Check your /etc/resolv.conf when you configure static IP.

I've not yet configured SSH, but that should not cause any problem. There is no error message, it just freezes for few seconds. and when it check for mirrors it just says none found but still downloads form somewhere.

my /etc/resolv.conf contains correct name server information (192.168.1.1).

I configured static IP during the time of installation where it asks for-
Host name
domain
nameserver
dnsserver
host ip

and I supplied correct information for all the fields which use to work fine for me earlier but not now.

I've faced problem with cheap belkin router in past so this time I invested some money and purchased Linksys but got disappointed. Think I'll have to purchase D-link as my experiences with netgear were not good and linksys and belkin are........

Any suggestions for cheap routers....
