Default XFCE 4.12 missing trash icon

Greetings,

I'm very happy to have OpenBSD 5.8 up and running and patched. This morning I was running Fluxbox for a bit, then I reverted back to XFCE. I noticed that the trash icon is missing on the desktop. This is not a dire situation, just a bit puzzling. I installed XFCE the usual way: pkg_add -v xfce & pkg_add -v xfce-extras, then edit .xinitrc.
Sometimes the usual suspects for this are gvfs and gamin. Gamin wasn't installed so I added that.
Any of you use XFCE? What do you think? Is this due to something removed or changed moving from 5.7--->5.8? I did a quick google search, nothing came up.
Thanks for any and all replies.

I use Xfce 4.10 with OpenBSD 5.7 and I can add or remove the trash on the desktop, with a simple right-clic on the desktop, and selecting Desktop settings..., the icons tab, Default Icons checkbox :

Thanks, mate! I went in to those settings and my trash icon was checked. So I un-checked, then checked it again and the trash icon appeared. Weird stuff!
Solved.

I't been happening to me for a month or so, I run snapshots on my laptop so it's pretty current. I can put the icon back the way you did. When I reboot I get to do it again.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I need to do that every time I reboot as well. I didn't have this with 5.7.

You'll note that the $MAINTAINER for xfdesktop is undefined, so when you:
Code:
$ cd /usr/ports/x11/xfce4/xfdesktop
$ make show=MAINTAINER
You will be directed to the ports@ mailing list.

There is a formal ports-bugs@ list, too.

Thanks for the reply, jggimi!
I don't have ports installed on this box so I guess the second e-mail link is the one to send this bug to?

Added later. Bug reported.

Seems to be a Xfce 4.12 bug.

I googled "xfce 4.12 desktop icons missing" and found things like that :

Quote:
Looks like a misplacement bug has shown up between 4.11 until 4.12 final release. I'm using XFCE 4.12 from Fedora COPR and saw a misbehaviour when pressing "Arrange Desktop Icons". The icons magically disappear, get aligned elsewhere, show up again, go away and so on. The only way to get them back is going into "Desktop Settings -> Icons -> Change Icon Type to something else and then back". Attached 3 Screenshots. This didn't happen with 4.11, so this must be a quite close recent change inside GIT.

Thanks! Interesting. I just fired-up my NetBSD 7.0 VM and it has the same issue with XFCE 4.12. My FreeBSD 10.2 VM running XFCE 4.12 doesn't have this issue.
I did send in the bug, but, if it is an upstream issue I'll just live with this.

The missing trash icon issue for XFCE 4.12 is resolved in OpenBSD 5.9.

So basically, the old "have you tried turning it off and then on again?"

It has been a while since I used Xfce4 but I recall that there was a logout option to save the session. If the session was not saved then any changes that had been made were lost.
