a bsd.rd upgrade issue for macppc
Hi !
A while ago I tried upgrading my OpenBSD box .. it's an imac running current .. when I boot on bsd.rd and chose an ftp server it stops at [anonymous] : No file or folder ... and when I tried installing from within a partition (/ or /home ) using disk option I'm asked if the partition is already mounted , I say no and when I try mounting it it says : device busy .. I tried it many times. Is there some current issue with macppc (bsd.rd) ? where should I preferably place the sets for a disk install option? I can't upgrade using cdrom as it became lame. Thanks in advance ! |

Thank you @jggimi !

problem persists .. I'll try getting the sets on a flash and do a disk install if it works because when I had the sets in / , install script failed to mount partition and get sets.

hey Daemons !! Chrismas already on 2 machines .. I've never thought a disk-based OpenBSD installation is that easy .. Thanks to the OpenBSD Team for offering such a wise choice among other choices .. I got the sets and copied them to my flash then rebooted on bsd.rd located in / then chose disk .. the rest went smoothly For some reason , the upgrade script missed INSTALL.i386 eventhough it exists among sets .. so I just relied no when prompted to continue without it .. everything is fine .. as usual and as expected : OpenBSD makes us and machines feel good :-)

Thanks ! Yes it worked like a charm !
I did actually mean INSTALL.i386 .. for some reason it prompted for it being missed even though it was there .. no issues :-) Code:
$ sudo sysctl kern.version kern.version=OpenBSD 5.2 (GENERIC.MP) #336: Tue Jul 24 09:46:21 MDT 2012 deraadt@i386.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC.MP |

oh sorry .. that was Acer's chrismas outfit .. no 'Sake' here believe me :-)
the iBook + X Code:
kern.version=OpenBSD 5.2 (GENERIC) #237: Tue Jul 24 09:46:09 MDT 2012 deraadt@macppc.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/macppc/compile/GENERIC |

??
You have now managed to reduce clarity further. I now have no idea what architecture has the problem for you. I am glad you managed to circumvent the problem, because by this point I am so confused I no longer care. Clarity of message is really important if you want to communicate and be understood. |
