Hello, and welcome!
Generally, there is no user control of fan speed possible. Monitoring, as you have done, and setting of APM power adjustments are about it. This old thread and this one have more info. Since you're using a Thinkpad, you may want to ask this question on the Project's misc@ mailing list -- about half of the developers are active on that list and it seems that most of them use Thinkpads. Hi, thank for reply.
How can idetermine what driver is my system uses for fan/term controlling? Is it acpithinkpad? Sorry for such a noob questions |
No apology needed. We were all noobs once.
The man page acipthinkpad(4) doesn't mention fan control - it discusses hotkeys and buttons. But it does report fan speed, and looking at the source code for src/sys/dev/acpi/acipthinkpad.c used at OpenBSD 5.6-release, I can see logic for reporting fan speeds. But not for manipulating it. There have been five patches to this module since 5.6-release, but none address fans, and none have been issued as errata or added to 5.6-stable. Details are here. |
Hm, so i use the driver that doesnt manipulate the fan speed and just tells me the speed itself?
Maybe i should change driver for it? Or something.. apropos fan | grep 4 gives me a lot of drivers The only problem is how to do that, or maybe i misunderstood you |
