Rather, libraries in
-current have been updated in the base installation, but the available snapshot packages have yet to be bulk

This is most likely not going to work in all cases, & is not supported by the project.
-release &
-current are not guaranteed to be library compatible.
The fundamental problem being encountered is that bulk recompilation of packages takes days. Compilation of the base system takes significantly less time depending upon the architecture, so there will be periodic base installation/package mismatches experienced in the
-current world. This situation is not going to change, & users of
-current are expected to be able to deal with the fallout. If this situation proves unacceptable to you,
-release or
-stable may be better choices.
