Default Upgrading from KDE 3.5 to KDE 4.1

I'm planning to upgrade my KDE installation from 3.5 to 4.1. Here are some questions regarding that matter:

* What are needed for a successful upgrade?
* Do I have to uninstall 3.5 first?
* Are there any recommended methods for such kind of upgrade?
