Startpage says that there are no plans - now or in the future - to share personal data with other parties. "Our users trust us not to do that and we don't want to harm that trust. We don't even collect any user data in the first place, so there isn't anything to share." According to the company the Privacy One Group operates completely independently from System1.
More paranoid opinion about investment, take it with a grain of salt

It's not paranoia - follow the money trail.

"Privacy One Group" is a 'nothing company', a subsidiary which seems to exist only as a layer between the advertising / spyware / data mining / tracking one-stop-shop System1 Group and Statpage's owner Surfboard Holding BV.

It's a "fox guarding hen house" scenario.

I've not used their search engine for years.

"Privacy" does not always mean "no tracking". It's usually a matter of terminology - they proxy google and I believe some other search engines, or maybe just google these days, but they still get to analyse that search traffic, still have sponsored results (ads). So you might have privacy from google and they might have pledged not to store P addresses, but it's a business.

I tend not to trust my privacy in the hands of a 3rd party. You have to take a lot of other measures to browse with some semblance of privacy and even then it's never going to be water tight.

If you go online, your data is going to be used by someone, that's just life these days.

Absolutely!
Many times, increased convenience & free stuff equals less freedom or security.
