Yay! 6.7-release OpenSMTPd now supports filters! I am adding opensmtpd-filter-dnsbl to my bastion mailserver today, to a) take advantage of the Xen DNSBL from Spamhaus.org, and b) remove a whole bunch of homemade blacklist maintenance functionality that I have in place.

Mostly, I'll be very glad to finally say goodbye to having to manually maintain all of Global Frag's innumerable /24s that I've been blocking for years.

Thanks to James Hastings, this release supports the emmc drive on my HP Stream 14. I'm also seeing improved stability on the AMD2200G/amdgpu system.

How much time & effort do you spend maintaining your mailserver? I've been remotely considering setting sth. like that up myself every once in a while. But every time Peter Hansteen posts one of his spam-related blogposts I tell myself: 'Nah, maybe not...'

Best discussed in a separate thread, but the "TL;DR" is:
  • 5-10 minutes processing any spam that sneaks through current filters, including LART messages to ISPs.
  • 20 seconds per day reading reports on new automatic blocks of the prior day's port 25 attacks, mainly to look for any log-chewing errors in my script.
  • Monthly blocklist edits where I transition old IPs from the 6-month active blocklist to an 18-month blocklist used to determine which blocks get the perma-ban-hammer.

Again a nice & easy update by sysupgrade. OBSD is quite good. Like it!

One of my systems -- a Wordpress staging server -- wasn't quite so easy, because /home didn't have enough space to run sysupgrade. I had to dump/restore a couple of filesystems to resize and make room.

First try failed for a PIBKAC issue.

But I decided to do an upgrade a second time, hoping not to re-install and went very well and quick. Nice one can do that if necessary.

A smooth install of 6.7. Many thanks to Theo and the developers.

I installed amd64 6.7 from scratch in order to convert the root filesystem from ufs to ufs2.

ufs2 is y2k38 ready and seems faster then ufs.

And an old bug from 6.1 is still here where /etc/rc hangs on "ttyflags -a". This happens only some of the time but when it hangs, the system must be powered off.

It seems to be triggered by a pci serial card which shows up in dmesg as:

com4 at puc0 port 0 apic 5 int 18: st16650, 32 byte fifo

Apparently this uses both a tty04 and a cua04 device.

The "ttyflags -a" command of /etc/rc hangs on the tty04 entry of /etc/ttys.
And a simple fix is to comment out the tty04 line...

I'm looking at the ttyflags.c code to try and narrow down the bug.

Next, I'm going to do an i386 install and upgrade again from ufs to ufs2.

UFS2? I thought it's FFS2. Am I missing something?

It is called by both names UFS2 and FFS2.

How do you know if you have ffs or ffs2? I checked the fstab file after a fresh install and it says ffs. The reason I am not sure about this, is because I read something where it said ff2 is for drives bigger than 1TB, while my drives are 500GB.

IIRC dumpfs(8) may show it to you.

I usually wait at least a week before upgrading, This time I made the mistake of doing it early. Upgrading the base system was not a problem, but upgrading third-party packages is a nightmare. I have only been able to upgrade a tiny number in two days. Every mirror I try starts well, but after downloading a few items things grind to a halt. pkg_add waits doing nothing until I abort with ctrl-c. Occasionally returning
Code:
Error retrieving https ... Operation timed out
signify: name_of_package truncated
.I have resorted to trying to upgrade packages individually, but that is hit and miss. At this rate it will take a week or two to finish the upgrade.

I'm sorry your network or location is problematic.

Have you tried the CDN mirrors? They should return an optimal connection regardless of location.

For example https://cdn.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/ (Fastly instance).

One way of checking is to touch a file newer than y2k38.

Here is what an ffs filesystem looks like:

Quote:
$touch -t 203801201234 y2k38-test
$ls -al y2k38-test
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 Dec 15 1901 y2k38-test
And here is what an ffs2 filesystem looks like:

Quote:
$touch -t 203801201234 y2k38-test
$ls -al y2k38-test
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 Jan 20 2038 y2k38-test

I used 'sysupgrade' for my first time, and was very impressed at how easy it was, compared to the old methods, everything went smoothly. Thanks
