Default rwx,r-x,r-x/U-- What's the "U" mean?

Using FreeBSD 7.0

I've searched a lot about permissions and can't find anything on what the U means. After installing aterm and eterm I can't run them. If I do a whereis on them it doesn't find them. I noticed that they have the U in the permissions. That may be the problem. What is that and do I need to unset it to run the programs?

thanks

This behaviour is not documented in the ls(1) man page.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question, can you capture a screenshot to demonstrate the problem?

Thanks.

Did you use ports or packages to install these programs?
What versions are they?
What are you using to show these permissions?
The correct permissions for eterm (and I'm assuming aterm) should be:
rws--x--x

Eterm starts as
Code:
Eterm
and not as
Code:
eterm
Note the difference

Eterm not eterm.

Thank you, that was my problem. Doh! Still thinking in a DOS frame of mind.

But I'm still curious about the "U"

I see it when using ROX but not in the terminal window. It must be something to do with ROX. I installed using ports.

Oh, well. No biggie. I'll check the ROX docs.

thanks
