GB lan card choice for FreeBSD
Hi,
I'm up to build an home server using FreeBSD (or FreeNAS). The server will act as nas, firewall and more. About the firewall I plan to buy 2 D-Link DGE-528T GB lan cards. GB, cheap and wol support. I searched the FreeBSD site but found nothing like the supported hardware list that we can find for OpenBSD. Maybe I missed it. Someone is using this card with FreeBSD without problem ? The hardware compatibility list is hard to find. I think this is what you need:
http://www.freebsd.org/relnotes/7-ST...l#MISC-NETWORK A quick search turns up this about half way down: D-Link DFE-528TX. The usual advice is to check the chipset actually used. OEMs often change the chipset without changing the part number. If the chipset is different then you MAY be unable to use the card under FreeBSD. |

I would bet on Intel PRO1000 PT or GT :> I dont know how the price is compared to dlink, but I think intel's card could be found about 40-50$. It is well supported by if_em driver.

@michaelrmgreen : that's it. I was unable to find it.
And it solve the question : D-Link DGE-528(T) Gigabit Ethernet (8169S) is in the list. Tks. @edhunter : the D-Link is sold for less 15 $. I guess it's ok for home use. The Intel would have been a better choice for work use but the D-Link already has the right stuff even if it's not the fastest there. |

Yup it's a Realtek chip as edhunter pointed out.
I bought the D-Link DGE-528 card about a month ago. It turns out it is in fact a Realtek supported by FreeBSD with the re driver.
