Default Home directories suddenly missing in Samba

I've been using Linux and FreeBSD for some time now and this is a first. Have not found help elsewhere for this issue so if someone has a clue please help:

The users' home directories in Samba suddenly were missing. They no longer show up in their Windows My Computer as H: drive and on the server trying to link to smb://server/homes. I just get "The file or folder smb://server/homes does not exist." Shared in http://localhost:901/shares as follows:
path /usr/home
force group (group that is used by all users)
read only yes
browseable yes
available yes

Have used Restart All in Samba Status. What else should be done?
