Installing software without Ethernet Card
Hello
Does anyone know how to install Software without ethernet card? I have an old notebook which only has a cd and floppy drive, but no NIC. I mean FreeBSD packages which are not on the installation CD. Is it possible to make a serial nullmodem connection and fetch the packages from another machine? |

If the system does have a serial port, and you have a null-modem cable.. you can transfer files, but the rate at which you can do so will be quite slow.
You have several options, utilities are in base for SLIP and PPP, either can be used to establish a connection to another system running FreeBSD.. or another system entirely, it might be easier to obtain the packages and dependencies on another system and burn them to a new blank CD-R. |

If it has USB or FW ports, you can use those to attach an Ethernet port. It really is a lot easier if you have it.
