iwn0: fatal firmware error
I'm in need of some help.
I'm trying to run OpenBSD 4.7 (Stable) on a Fujitsu U820 Lifebook. I knew that the Atheros wireless card it came with wouldn't jive with Obsd, so I bought an Intel 5300 instead. I installed the card, and then installed iwn-firmware-5.3 as per the iwn man page. But it seems I'm not having much luck with this wireless card either. It's discovered on boot, but trying to ifconfig it for basic use (128bit WEP, DHCP) gives me the following: Code:

try version 5.5 of the firmware. it's linked to here: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.c...86&format=html

With OpenBSD, using a newer firmware along with an older driver is typically discouraged, he should wait for 4.8 or try a snapshot.

oh woops, I thought I was on the 4.7 version of the man page, but it just defaulted to current when it didn't find the 4.7 one.
freebsd.org has the 4.7 man pages: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?q....7&format=html |

try reinstalling the firmware package?

If I have a lot of time, I do have another Intel card I could try out. But I do not look forward to taking apart the u820 to get to the other card. It's a somewhat 'intimate' process. |

Well, just in case anyone was following this, I tried a snapshot this morning with firmware 5.5 and the result was the same.
iwn0: no link..................sleeping and iwn0: not found So I guess this will be a problem I solve with money and time. Does anyone know of another half mini pci-e wireless card that is OpenBSD supported? It doesn't have to be N draft, I only have ABG at home. Thanks! |

So it turned out the problem was solved with a little extra time on my end.
As of this post, snapshot has support for Atheros wireless chipsets. I gutted the lifebook, put in the old Atheros card (an HB92 I believe), and all is well. Thanks to jggimi in another thread for the tip. |
