Where are solved/unsolved old posts moved to?
Is there some kind of archive, or they are just deleted?

for example in FreeBSD security, where is that post that was about hardening FreeBSD (securing FreeBSD)

I can find it via search, but can't see in that section. Why?
It would be wise to see it there, because if you don't exactly know what to search for or just want to go threw posts, you can't find it (unless you use search)

Goto the FreeBSD Security subforum & search for "hardening". I find the thread you are looking for twelveth from the top, but this will change as more threads are created in that particular subforum.

Posts are not archived in a different location nor are they deleted unless the original author does so themselves. Admin's & Moderator's can also delete posts. From what I understand, the initial post in any thread cannot be deleted at all by members, however Admin's & Moderator's can move them to private forums which are not searchable by members.

I know that....
But, i still don't understand why topics are disappearing, and can only be found with search

They're not disappearing, think of it like a journal... the pages keep turning as time goes on.

Go to any subforum, you'll see a small "Page selection" bar... use it.

Threads aren't disappearing, they're where they are supposed to be, you just cant find them ... ``can't see the forest through the trees'' as we say in Dutch...
On occasion a thread is moved, a redirect is typically left for 2-3 days.
