Default Invalid Signature when trying to boot Ubuntu 14.04 (Dual Boot)

Hi,

I installed PCBSD 10 on a separate ZFS partition alongside (L)ubuntu 14.04.

Lubuntu's grub was overwritten by PCBSD's grub but Lubuntu was not

detected. So I manually added an entry in /usr/local/etc/grub.d/40_custom.

Problem is when I try to boot Lubuntu I get "Invalid Signature"

These are my partitions

Code:
Code:

fdisk ada0
******* Working on device ada0 *******
parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are:
cylinders=310101 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl)

Figures below won't work with BIOS for partitions not in cyl 1
parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are:
cylinders=310101 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl)

Media sector size is 512
Warning: BIOS sector numbering starts with sector 1
Information from DOS bootblock is:
The data for partition 1 is:
sysid 131 (0x83),(Linux native)
    start 2048, size 48828125 (23841 Meg), flag 0
	beg: cyl 0/ head 32/ sector 33;
	end: cyl 1023/ head 254/ sector 63
The data for partition 2 is:
sysid 165 (0xa5),(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD)
    start 48830464, size 255858688 (124931 Meg), flag 0
	beg: cyl 1023/ head 254/ sector 63;
	end: cyl 1023/ head 254/ sector 63
The data for partition 3 is:
sysid 130 (0x82),(Linux swap or Solaris x86)
    start 304689548, size 7887157 (3851 Meg), flag 0
	beg: cyl 1023/ head 254/ sector 63;
	end: cyl 1023/ head 254/ sector 63
The data for partition 4 is:
<UNUSED>
Code:
/dev% ls ada*
ada0    ada0s1  ada0s2  ada0s2a ada0s2b ada0s3
I tried with the following entries but the result was the same

Code:
menuentry "lubuntu" {
    set root='(hd0,1)'
    chainloader +1
    }

Code:
menuentry "lubuntu" {
    insmod chain
    insmod ext2
    set root='(hd0,1)'
    chainloader +1
    }
Ext4 support is installed by default, if that matters.

Code:
pkg info fusefs-ext4fuse-0.1.3,1
fusefs-ext4fuse-0.1.3,1
Name           : fusefs-ext4fuse

I managed to boot Lubuntu using Super Grub Disk and this is a screenshot of Gparted

I am really stuck with this. Please help.

I guess this is a lost case.

I guess I will delete that Ext4 partition and create an UFS and dedicate that space to a Lubuntu VM.

PF will be guarding Tux then !

I was waiting for someone more knowledgeable than me to answer you, but as no one has stepped forward, all I can tell you is that I read on another forum that the grub has to be 're stamped', which can be done from the install media.

're stamped' means restoration of grub ? I have it once some years back with

a Xubuntu CD.

Since Ubuntu has no ZFS support can't afford to reinstall it coz it will

overwrite PCBSD's grub. I don't miss any major apps in BSD other

than the shutter screenshot tool which proved to be very useful.

Have you ever used scrot? It is a great application and I would be surprised if it is not in PCBSD's ports collection.

There is a native X Window screenshot tool called xwd(1). To display the image you can use xwud(1). One major disadvantage is that xwd only can save an image in native X Window dump format and not in something like GIF of JPEG. You would need a tool like ImageMagick to convert the image created by xwd.

Yes, I have tried scrot. It does what its supposed to do but Shutter has an

inbuilt image editor with some tools specially designed to edit screenshots.

You can highlight an areas of your screenshot with an arrow or a rectangle.

Pixellete an area which you want to hide.

If you have a Linux install in a VM try it once.

@J65nko

KNsapshot is working pretty well. Other than taking screenshot

of the entire desktop it does all the basic things like taking

screenshot of a selected region, highlighted window, etc.

It has support for the following formats :

Quote:
EPS image (.eps)
JPEG-2000 image (.jp2)
JPEG image (.jpeg)
MNG animation (.mng)
PBM image (.pbm)
PCX image (.pcx)
Softimage PIC image (.pic)
PNG image (.png)
PGM image (.pgm)
PPM image (.ppm)
RGB image (.rgb)
TGA image (.tga)
TIFF image (.tif)
XBM image (.xbm)
XPM image (.xpm)
I usually save the image as png or jpg.
