Default Resolution problem..

HI,

I have an problem with my pc bsd 7.1 system I can't seem to change the resolution from 1024x768 to 640x480 I temporarily use an very old monitor for my second computer.. it can only handle 640x480.. I can barrerly see the screen so its very annoying and I really need to switch it down to 640x480.

I tried to edit the XF86Config with the kate editor using these commands in the terminal

kdesu kate /etc/X11/XF86Config

after that command I get an screen to type my root password.. I do so..
after that I get an error kdesu kate not found.

any ideas ?

thanks in advance.

oh fuck after messing hours with the terminal , I tried changing the resolution just trough the Display setting menu and set it to 640x480 and it works. I vigured it would not be listed as this resolution wasn't listed in the (Display settup when using option 7 at the startup ) .
oh well it works and screen is big but at least I can see until I replace this trash monitor.

It doesn't save though after a restart its simple in 1024x768 again.
so the right method to fix this trough the terminal is still welcome...
and have in mind I got pc bsd 7.1 installed it uses new version of KDE4
the kate editor is probable located somewhere else.. I got no clue I am new to BSD system.

Thanks in advance

KATE might not be standard issue anymore; try something else.

if you want a terminal editor: try 'ee' or 'nano'; graphical editors included should include xedit and whatever presence kedit/kwrite have in KDE4.
