Hello,

Can someone please take a look and see what I am doing wrong? I am trying to connect my laptop to my wireless router (which uses wpa2/aes).

/etc/hostname.wpi0
Code:
dhcp NONE NONE NONE nwid mynetwork wpa wpapsk mykeygoeshere

This is the output of ifconfig wpi0
Code:

You were using an out-of-date how-to. "wpapsk" has not been a valid option for years. Use "wpakey". See ifconfig(8).

To clarify - wpakey was added to ifconfig as on option a little over two years ago -- October, 2010, and included in 4.9-release.

The wpapsk option required the use of wpa-psk(8), which was removed for 4.9-release. That program generated the 256-bit pre-shared key from a combination of the SSID and an ASCII passphrase.

The replacement of wpapsk with wpakey eliminated this pre-processing step.

Even if an admin had previously created a pre-shared key with wpa-psk(8), the wpapsk functionality was removed from ifconfig in August of 2011, and not present in 5.1-release.

At 5.1 and beyond, wpakey is required.

Thanks, you have helped me alot on many threads and I appreciate that!

I changed it wpakey (which was one of my problems) which helped but still did not work.

So from the dmesg I googled this error message
Code:
wpi0: error, 2, could not read firmware wpi-3945abg
wpi0: could not read firmware
So then I downloaded

http://firmware.openbsd.org/firmware...rmware-3.2.tgz

and used pkg_add to add it (just incase someone else is trying to do this in the future)

Take a look at the fw_update(1) man page. This tool automates firmware acquisition for many devices where their licensing does not permit packaging firmware with the OS.

The RAMDISK kernel's install and upgrade scripts normally set this to run at first boot after install or upgrade. Of course, if you don't have a working network interface on first boot, it won't do much for you.

Here's the two lines in /usr/src/distrib/miniroot/install.sub that do this:
Code:
update_firmware() {
    echo "/usr/sbin/fw_update -v" >> /mnt/etc/rc.firsttime
