Hello, and welcome!

I am not a java user, nor a user of icedtea-web. The Java plugin is not supported by Firefox or Chromium, as I see these errors when testing it with Firefox and Chromium using the test applet: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/firefox_java.xml

Chromium

The Chrome browser does not support NPAPI plug-ins and therefore will not run all Java content. Switch to a different browser (Internet Explorer or Safari on Mac) to run the Java plug-in.

64-bit Firefox

The 64-bit version of Firefox does not support NPAPI plug-ins, including Java.

Firefox 52 and above

Beginning with Firefox 52 (released March 2017), plug-in support is limited to Adobe Flash, and drops support for NPAPI, impacting plugins for Java, Silverlight, and other similar NPAPI based plugins.

I think that Firefox ESR 52 still supports plugins like Java plugin. Despite being based on Firefox 52, which does not have NPAPI support (except for Flash player - this is an exception). If not:

Unfortunately I don't know whether OpenBSD's Java will work with OpenBSD's Firefos - I does not tested that. In Windows it required 32-bit Firefox ESR and 32-bit Java browser plugin, if IIRC.
