Default Mouse issue

Good evening, EDIT: sorry, i posted it not in the good section.....

First, my english is not perfect, so please don't get offended.

I just discovered OpenBSD 6.2 and installed it on a old desktop (HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor), using XFCE4.

So far, the only issue happen with the mouse. When I start applications like firefox, thunderbird, or even some settings stuff, the mouse froze. I have to unplung and replug it to another USB port to fix this.

I didn't find anything on the web about this issue, may someone give me some documentation to read or give me a hint

Merci!!!

Fabien

Hello, and welcome!

While I may not be able to offer much help, the best place to gather information is your dmesg(8). This will show you what the OS understands about the hardware it is running on. If you copy/paste it here, someone may be able to help.

In particular any error messages produced in the dmesg() that requires you to switch to a different USB port indicates a USB problem of some kind. The problem may be with how the mouse attaches, or how the driver perceives the mouse is operating.

Does this solution fix the problem once and for all ?
Or do you need to unplug/replug several times ?

What is your mouse ?
Did you made a quick search about your mouse ?
Could be interesting to check if your mouse is known for creating trouble or not.

Does the problems occurs just like that ?
Or did you try some special commands/hacks ?
Something like wsmoused(8) ?
En gros, en mode normal ou en bidouillant ?

Bonjour LeFrettchen, thank you for helping me.

Does this solution fix the problem once and for all ? Yes

What is your mouse ? Sysgration ASUS ROG Laser Gaming Mouse GX1000

Did you made a quick search about your mouse ? I just did, but I am not sure what to google...

Does the problems occurs just like that ? When I start applications like firefox, thunderbird, or even some settings stuff

Or did you try some special commands/hacks ? No

Something like wsmoused(8) ? I don't even know what that is, not yet I guess

En gros, en mode normal ou en bidouillant ? j'l'avais pas vu venir celle la, tu m'as bien eu. No bidouille, only in a very casual use.

doesn't seem to be the problem. After many reboot the mouse always froze as expected but this error doesn't show up any more in dmesg.

Also, It happen with another mouse.

Looks like the USB port dies.
If I plug the mouse on a port in the front of the desktop, the problem keeps happening until the mouse is not working any more, like if the USB port is definitely dead.
If I plug the mouse on a port situated behind the desktop, the issue happen only once and then every is fine.

Why the port dies? Back to google...

Sounds like either the wire or the socket attachment to me.

Take the cover off you computer & check that the plug is secure in the USB port of your motherboard, & it may help if you unplug & replug it a couple of times, to clean the contacts.

I am afraid that the hardware is fine. They are alive right after reboot, but that doesn't last...
Only the ports behind are fine after one resurrection.

That is not a big issue since this PC is suppose to not shutdown, but still, I want to know...
