Default Mount removable Media Glitch

I have a new install of FreeBSD 7.1 AMD64 in which the kernel does not show either usb thumb drives or cd/dvd media.
With a usb thumb drive dmesg gives:
Quote:
uhub5: device problem (TIMEOUT), disabling port 7
From what I can tell it is an issue with camcontrol. I think I have the needed kernel modules, /etc/devfs.rules, /etc/devfs.conf and /usr/local/etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf. I'm using XFCE.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks for the reply. I tried a generic kernel without any change. The device (I tried several different thumb drives that previously worked) does not even generate a /dev/da* I suspect this is a bug.

Some more info:

I went back to FreeBSD7.0 which previously worked well and have the same problem. The device is not being spawned with dbus and hal enabled. When I disable dbus and hal the appropriate device shows up in dmesg and can be mounted.

Both optical media (cd/dvd) and usb drives are affected. This seems to have happened with the upgrade to Xorg 7.4

Can anyone tell me is this would be an issue with 6.4 on a amd64 system or if there is a way to get hal and dbus working in 7.x?
