New OpenBSD User
Hi, I'm introducing myself. My name is Christopher, and I recently installed OpenBSD on my main desktop PC at work, just to force myself to learn it. I use Gentoo Linux on all my other PCs and servers at the moment.
I installed Gnome so actually the general look and feel is about the same, although there are a number of interesting differences when I work in the terminal. E.g., in OpenBSD I had to use "su -l" instead of just "su", or OpenBSD does not load a new environment. Your package manager is pretty straightforward, although I was a little confused at first because it allowed me to install gnome-desktop without installing gnome-panel, metacity, or most of the other stuff one takes for granted. I should like to try OpenBSD as a server instead of a desktop, but I don't have any spare servers at the moment. Anyway, I'll probably be asking a lot of question. Thx in advance. |

Having a network interface of some sort does help make a server of it in many cases .
Can't say anything about manual pages under Gentoo (beyond that I already know many GNU manual pages suck and blow), but OpenBSD at least, the documentation is definitive :-).
