freeBSD on Asus EEE PC 1000H
hi
has someone tried to install freeBSD on Asus EEE PC 1000H ? Last edited by ccc; 14th July 2009 at 02:39 PM. |

1000H uses Attansic Technology L1E lan and as far as I know there is just some experimental support for L2 and no support at all for L1. I'm using a 900A (Intel Atom), same Lan but Atheros wifi (I have to use stable together with ath_hal from current). Asus 1000 != 1000H, Asus 900 != 900A and so on, it's a silly game but they are using different hardware setups with every revision.
To get FreeBSD on some EEE follow this howto, http://bsdimp.blogspot.com/2007/10/b...86-images.html I have got working HDA sound, graphics, standby, but I have some severe problems with my card reader. If you don't want to tinker a lot, take some Linux distro _at the moment_.

thx, but should I take freeBSD 7.0 stable or is it better 7.1-BETA2 to support hardware ?
or maybe exists a speciall image for this notebook ? |
|
|||
I've installed freeBSD 7.1-BETA2-i386 on my EEEPC 1000H,
but freeBSD cannot see any interfaces: ethernet and wireless. knows someone howto solve this problem ? |

1000H has a RALINK and it needs rt2860 driver (module).

That's the latest stuff for ral. I did read something on the mailinglists about a bad firmware for ral, maybe you should ask someone there.

There are patches available for the ale(4) driver, which supports the L1E and L2E chipsets. I don't know if they're just for -CURRENT, or for older releases as well.

Please read the last few posts by phoenix and myself, they are talking about the relevant driver. You may also wish to visit the freebsd-questions mailing list archive. |

what about current freeBSD 7.1?
does ist support rt2860 and Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E? |
|
||||
According to the man page, the ale(4) driver is available for the Atheros chipset. Not sure about the RealTek.

thx, but what about freeBSD 8.0 current ?
does 8.0 current support rt2860 ? |
|
|||
I've installed freeBSD 8.0-CURRENT, but rt2860 seems to be not supported.
