Default BSD Counter

I'm sure you've all seen "Linux Registered User# *" in some peoples signatures on other sites. I always wondered where that came from, so I followed one such signature's link to the counter project. So I wondered, is there such a thing for *BSD. Sure enough, there is a BSD Counter page -- fairly broken - at www.bsdcounter.org. Googling around, I saw mention of this being introduced back in 2001. Does anyone know what, if anything is going on with it - is it defunct (it sure seems dead)? Was it replaced with something else?

While it may not be a direct replacement, the BSD Stats Project does something similar. It's not a true representation of the exact number of BSD systems out there, and only PC-BSD enables it by default (the rest are opt-in), but it is a decent setup. The stats can't really be used for useful analysis, but can be used for "there's at least X number of BSD systems out there" statements.
