Default 7.2 -> 8.2 now my ad2s1a is gone

In /dev/ there are ad2 and ad2a. It appears that the slice is gone? I tried scan_ffs on /dev/ad2 and it says:

block 128 id 46e15597,86405207 size 60313680
block 160 id 46e15597,86405207 size 60313680
X: 241254720 0 4.2BSD 2048 16384 0 # /home
block 191 id 46e3bee7,e486f661 size 60313664
block 223 id 46e3bee7,e486f661 size 60313664
X: 241254656 63 4.2BSD 2048 16384 0 # /home
...

What do I do with this?

I also tried sysinstall to recreate the slice and partition and it said it'd written to disk but /dev/ doesn't update, even after reboot...?

I used to have a ufs /dev/ad2s1d mounted as /home but after an upgrade it's gone.

Is /dev/ada2s1d there? Maybe it will mount as /home and you can adjust fstab
(Guessing).
If devices are plainly missing though, geom_mbr.ko and two others in /boot/loader.conf
may fix it (search that term in this or the freebsd forum...)

Not exactly, but loading modules bsd and label (I already had mbr) gav me this in dev:

None of which is mountable. Removing module label however and setting the geom_kernel_debug sysctl allowed me to recreate the slice and partition. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and forgot to toggle the newfs switch. So....
