Default Why are these forums relatively dead?

Provocative title, I know...

They're not dead by any means, I just wanted to get your attention. I remember BSDforums back in the day, and if my memory serves me it was much more active than these forums are now. I want to speculate as to why.

Has the user-base of BSD decreased? Are there less new users of BSD now? Does everyone just use reddit these days?

I like small-ish communities like this because it's easier to get to know individual users and develop non-forum relationships. I still regularly chat with people I met as a result of BSDforums (BSDnexus forums too!). It seems easier to get lost in the crowd on sites like reddit. So what's the deal, DaemonForums?
