Have you tried tip? tip uses the /etc/remote file. You just copy an entry give it a new name and change the value of the dv to the device name of your usb->serial adapter.

Can you give a hint what model/chipset your adapter is/uses? I also need to get one of these but I don't have a clue what is supported by freebsd, neither how to find out which adapter is using what kind of chipset.

Fortunately most USB serial adaptors are CDC(Communications Device Class) compliant..
|

In minicom's config, remove the initialization string. As this isn't a modem, it doesn't need to be "initialized."
I too connect to my router/firewall through minicom/serial, however I have a system that's old enough and has a serial port, so no USB->serial for me.
