Default a question on partitions

Hi everybody!
is there an actual difference between this partitioning scheme { /, swap, /tmp, /var, /home} and the extended one comprising those plus { /usr/X11R6, /usr/local, /usr/obj, /usr/src} ?

some would favor the latter .. I've read on a debian page something like that as well .. many partitions are better than one whole /
as far as OpenBSD is concerned , how does this help tighten the OS security/stability ?

Thank you ..

Security implications

Each mounted filesystem may use different restriction options, such as nodev, nosuid, noexec. See mount(8).

Storage management implications

A filesystem's storage utilization is independent. One partition reaching its full capacity will not affect another. Only running applications that are writing to the "full" partition will be affected when it reaches its limits.

Managing of capacity and space requires planning and forethought, as it may also require scheduled downtime for any necessary reconfiguration.
