Net neutrality and pseuod democracy meet head on
Excuse me for bring my gripe with martin to the attention of the general public hear on the forums at deamonforums, but I belevie he has voiolated my right to free speach granted me by the constitution of the United States (My home Country) just because he has censored a huge segment from my signature, which was my honest opinion about what i see as a problem on several forums to which i contribute on a regular basis.
Hello, I removed the first part of your signature, I don't think I need to explain why. In addition, I would like to point out that hostility towards any user, "noob" or otherwise, is not tolerated, if you think someone needs to "RTFM" or is acting like an idiot that you are free point this out to him/her, but do so in a respectful and polite manner. Martin I am sorry for the rucus iver the signature, but I have had this signature on LinuxQuestions and either jermy the adminstrator , one of his co adminisrtators has given me greif about it nor sensored it. So I do not understand why you guys wouild censor it and sritp me of muy constitutional right of free speach. Your critique and recommendations on what to do in feature istances of opression such as this are openly accepted.

Hello,
I'm with Carpetsmoker on this one. Besides the obvious fact that its his site and he'll censor if he wants to (sorry for the lame parody) - freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want. Try going into a crowded theater and yelling "FIRE!!!" and see how quickly you'd be thrown into jail. And you can't hardly say anything on a plane anymore. Also, there are laws against slander (and profanity in some communities). You can't use freedom of speech to tell a lie in court. For legal precedents, see Roth v. United States(1957) and Miller v. California (1973) - among others. The basic gist is that obscenity is not protected speech. Miller v. California states "This much has been categorically settled by the Court, that obscene material is unprotected by the First Amendment." Freedom is not the right to do whatever you want to do - that's license. Freedom is the ability to do what you ought to.

You're not a lawyer, and I'm not a lawyer, so let's save the Bill of Rights analysis for someone who knows what s/he is actually talking about. Just let it go. If you're itching to protest something, go protest the tremendous deficit that is threatening to sink this great country.

Freedom of speech is only about the right publicly to criticize the government, or to disseminate an opinion in a public (i.e., government-related) forum. What on earth does this site have to do with either of those? This is a forum run by private, but very generous and decent, individuals. If you cannot abide by their minimal reqirements, you have to consider whether this is a forum for you.
I have refrained from commenting on your current signature, simply because this is a young forum. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with the topics that are discussed here, and it is totally inappropriate. I've read your posts here, and my gentle advice it to read, learn, and grow up. |

Floridabsd,

Nice to see the admins taking things seriously.
Step 1 is always making the rules. Step 2 is people pushing them to see where the boundaries really are. If step 3 isn't enforcing the rules, then the community is in trouble. Nice to see, and it is a sign that these forums will become a thriving, useful resource. Thanks, all.

no need for profanity
no need for profanity. if we're not all adults on here, let's at least pretend we are.
and it wouldn't hurt to make an effort on spelling. |
