Default ILLEGAL REQUEST, PCI Error, SET_MULTI timeout - boot errors help

Hi. I'm very new to BSD but I'll do my best to explain my problem(s).

I receive a lot of errors on boot. Sometimes BSD won't even boot due to kernel fault (I couldn't get this text since I don't know if it's stored in any other file, I couldn't see it in messages) and sometimes it just freezes after giving me SET_MULTI, READ_DMA retrying, and SETFEATURES timeouts on several lines.

Some (maybe) strange errors in the boot log.
The first one is "FAILURE - INQUIRY ILLEGAL REQUEST" as shown below:
Quote:
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: acd0: DVDR <TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-S183A/SB02> at ata3-slave SATA150
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: acd0: FAILURE - INQUIRY ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0x24 ascq=0x00
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: acd0: FAILURE - INQUIRY ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0x24 ascq=0x00

Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: SMP: AP CPU #1 Launched!
The second one is a "Uncorrectable PCI Express error" as seen below:
Quote:
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: mskc0: Uncorrectable PCI Express error
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: kldload: Unsupported file type
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd last message repeated 8 times
Third one is the one that sometimes stops BSD from booting at all. I had to write it off screen as this isn't logged in the messages file:
Quote:
ad0: WARNING - SETFEATURES ENABLE WCACHE taskqueue timeout - completing request directly
ad0: WARNING - SET_MULTI taskqueue timeout - completing request directly
ad0: TIMEOUT - READ_DMA retrying (1 retry left) LBA=63
ad0: WARNING - SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE taskqueue timeout - completing request directly
ad0: WARNING - SETFEATURES ENABLE RCACHE taskqueue timeout - completing request directly
And last I am wondering why my HD isn't running SATA300 (it should as it is what it is set to). Also I am wonderting what the "Config disk is", since it's sometimes the one that gives the TIMEOUTs above:
Quote:
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: hptrr: no controller detected.
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: ad0: 238475MB <SAMSUNG SP2504C VT100-41> at ata2-master SATA150
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: ad1: 0MB <Config Disk RGL10364> at ata3-master SATA150

Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: acd0: DVDR <TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-S183A/SB02> at ata3-slave SATA150
Jul 25 12:59:32 pcbsd kernel: acd0: FAILURE - INQUIRY ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0x24 ascq=0x00
I have attached a copy of my boot log from /var/log/messages - I think this is the correct boot log if not ask me to upload another and I'll be happy to.

System specs:
Core2Duo E6600 @ 3.2GHz
4GB DDR2 PC5300 @ PC5700
250GB Samsung Spinpoint SP2504C
Asus P5W DH Delux mobo
Galaxy Geforce 8800GT

I don't believe that's anything to worry about. pretty much the kernel scanning the optical drive to see if there's anything in it.

some SATA-300 disks, like Seagates, have a jumper that can be removed (usually) or installed (less commonly, if at all) to enable SATA-300 mode; others, like Hitachis, require a firmware-management utility to enable SATA-300. I don't know how Samsung did things for their SPxxx disks.

EDIT: whoops, I guess I glossed over "it is what it is set to". so all I can really say to that is "are you sure?" Or maybe that's somehow covered by the patch below, though that doesn't seem likely.

I actually took a look at Samsung's site and searched for your HD model and didn't find any general information (must be an older disk?), but I did see this: http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...bbs_msg_id=124

I'm not sure whether it's related to your problem, but if your disk is from that time period and you haven't installed that patch, it may be worth a shot.

sorry, no ideas about the questions I didn't quote.
