Default i386 to amd64

Hi everyone,

my 4G of ram and my Pentium D processor finally arrived for my old fileserver at home
Question, would it be possible to build the 64-bit world & kernel on my i386 platform and then rebuild all ports without having to reinstall from scratch ?

If not, could I somehow trick freebsd-update to install a 64-bit version ?

Thanks,

George
