Default Error in locking Authority

I was unable to become SU when logged in as a user. So I went to /etc/group and, using vi, appended by username to the end of the line: wheel:*:0:root,JerrywBSD

all was well, I could use SU
(I've got OpenBSD 4.5 installed on a Mac iBook, G4)

the following day I logged in (a somewhat tortuous process, subject for another thread). When I typed "startkde", the system booted me out with:

Error in locking authority file /home/JerrywBSD/.Xauthority

I can log in as root and start KDE but cannot do so as a regular user. I'm assuming there is some linkage with my previous evenings edit of the /etc/group file (tho I'm quite sure I did not touch anything else in that file)

Any help?
Jerry
