Hot to mount mac formated external HD
How can I mount Mac formated External hard disk in freebsd. Format of external hard disk is "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".
Also how can I mount Mac format Ipod in freebsd? |

Well, in teory it depends on file system. You can try /usr/ports/emulators/hfsutils
I dont think it will work with your hfs+ I failed to mount dmg/img files with it (dunno how it works with real devices). There were hfs+ patches for older FreeBSD kernel, but it is now obsolete because lack of interest. Linux, on other hand does support hfs+ out of box (from kernel hfsplus module). There is free HFSExplorer, maybe it will run via wine? |

I don't own an ipod, or any mp3 player for that matter.. but the following leads me to believe "some" models are supported.
http://www.freshports.org/search.php...tch&query=ipod But ya, from what I hear.. the older (non-touch) ipods appear as mass storage devices.. but the media is stored on them in a proprietary database style format. |

As for the main question, HFS/HFS+ media.. another port mentioned on freshports is called, you guessed it, hfs.
emulators/hfs Hope that helps. Edit; this port might be for HFS only, not the newer Unix-ready HFS+ Last edited by BSDfan666; 26th October 2008 at 10:23 PM. |

I just wanted to transfer files of my I pod classic. Dont want to manage my music from freeBSD. I know I tunes would be best to manage music. Isn't my I pod equivalent to usb mass storage device?

Technically it is, but the way the music is stored prevents you from ever actually being able to get files off of it.

For iPod access, especially with the older ones, you can try the following ports:
audio/gnupod Set of Perl scripts for using an Apple iPod audio/gtkpod GUI for Apple iPods using GTK2 audio/libgpod A library for direct access of iPod's contents misc/gopod Utility to cap/uncap an iPod misc/gtk-gopod GTK Utility to cap/uncap an iPod misc/shuffle-db An iPod shuffle database builder sysutils/fusefs-pod FUSE-based filesystem for iPod gtkpod would probably be the nicer/easier of the bunch. |
