Xorg stays at 800x600 on apple g3 monitor.
I've recently installed OpenBSD on a G3. Both editing the original xorg.conf and using xorgconfig or Xorg -configure leaves me with an unusable file.

VESA vbe is not an option on non-x86 architectures jggimi, as described in FAQ 11.2.10 there are two ways of getting X on macppc.. the unaccelerated framebuffer (..wsfb(4)) or the accelerated X drivers like xf86-video-ati (..and maybe nv).
If you use the unaccelerated framebuffer you'll be stuck in 8bpp mode at a resolution controlled by the Mac firmware.. it cannot changed after the kernel takes over. @Mr-Biscuit, please read /usr/X11R6/README. |
|
|||
The benefit of Xorg auto-configuration is not available on OpenBSD/macppc as of yet, so unless you want to use the default unaccelerated framebuffer.. you'll have to customize /etc/X11/xorg.conf accordingly.
If your unable to determine your video card, just post a dmesg here in

blocks and we'll be able to tell you how to proceed.. |

No, he shouldn't.. an xorg.conf from a Linux system will most likely NOT work on OpenBSD, not without significant changes.. keyboards and mice are handled differently for example.
You should use the default /etc/X11/xorg.conf and read the file I mentioned before, it explains how to set things up. Configuration of accelerated X is fully explained, if the OP refuses to read it or post relevant information.. we cannot help him. |

the OP got sick, the OP went through depression. Don't be a jackass, you can ask why I was delayed. I'll connect the G3 soon and run everything, including a reinstall of OpenBSD so that everything is a fresh install. |

That's good to hear, but I won't be helping you any further.

How am I to post a dmesg when I am not even connected? [QUOTE}3 Days Ago 06:49 AM Mr-Biscuit I'm not able to post any message until I get a router. It's a standard rage128 16meg card.
|

Currently, I'm having hardware problems with using openbsd fdisk and recognizing the correct drive size.
My cellphone neither has a usb interface, compatibility with linux, nor am I able to send pictures to emails because the account is limited. When I have it up again, my card reader working, and a card for my camera that doesn't mess up;then, I will post all information maybe even a direct dmesg. The openBSD 4.6 install is now working on the P4/Xeon tower. |
|
|||
I have it back on the g3, xorg is currently running at default.
I've saved dmesg to /home/user and I've edited according to advice given here. Currently using xorg and compiling. I'm not posting from the g3. |

I will explain and not excuse my behavior with this post:
I have depression, go through mood swings, and don't always think in a linear fashion. I'm on medication and am in therapy. Or to make it short, I'm crazy and smart. if the admin and mods want to delete this post, they may. |
