texlive_base: no man pages for tex and pdflatex

Hello.
This is my first post in a forum and I'm afraid to do something wrong.
Please be patient.

I installed texlive_base in openbsd 5.8 release but I can't find any man page
for tex and pdflatex.
I searched for them in /usr/share/man and in /usr/local/man
but I didn't find anything.
I also searched with find:
# find / -name tex.1
# find / -name pdflatex.1
without results.
I didn't get any message concerning man pages during the installation of the package.
Can you help me?

Hello, and welcome!

There are lots of TeX packages. Those particular man pages are included in the package called texlive_texmf-minimal.

I noted that every user of the forum has a number of thanks associated,
so I suppose there is an action I can do to register these thanks, but I can't see it.
Can you tell me what to do?

You're welcome.

The "thanks" facility was disabled years ago, as it had technical problems and this forum uses an elderly, unmaintained version of vBulletin software.

There's no need to "close" the forum thread. Anyone interested will be able to find it by searching on the forum or on an Internet search engine. Anyone not interested probably won't read it.

TeXLive doesn't come with man pages. It comes with texdoc utility. texdoc is in the package TeXLive-docs. TeXLive base is just a base which is needed for other programs which depends on TeX to operate. You need texlive-full to actually use tex. If 4GB of space is too much you can compile kerTeX from the source. That will give you original Don's TeX engine. Even LaTeX macros have to be added separately in kerTeX lets alone gazillion package needed if you are going to write Journal papers.
