Oh no, an obscure OS release

The new radeon/intel video drivers should be of interest to FreeBSD/OpenBSD users. FBSD/OBSD are still basing the kernel drm code on Linux 3.8 - The DragonFly project moved the bar.

I have been eyeing the relatively inexpensive AM1 based cpu's/vpu's

I quite liked DragonFly 4.0.x but it was problems with AMD radeon/drm drivers and broken vt switching which ultimately put me off (had the same problems with FreeBSD 10.x as well, except that has the new VT driver as a solution), so this is an interesting development.

Hopefully we can 1-up them to 4.1 or something

And due to the bug with the driver we already have release 4.2.1 As of big ticket items the real news is removal of Sandmail and Dragon Fly mail agent dma as a default small lightweight Mail Transport Agent (MTA). Really cool and two thumbs up for the effort. Between IMHO that thing should be imported as a native MTA into FreeBSD. IPFW3 is for all practical purposes DF fork of native FreeBSD firewall (IPFW). I am not a big fun but I like diversity. That is really good thing. I would like to see more stabilization of the server related code (RAID card drivers, monitoring infrastructure and similar). It seems that the number of BSD people run DF on their desktops is only second to OpenBSD. Really cool!!!

IIRC, there was discussion at one point maybe last year of importing DMA into FreeBSD.
Not sure what ultimately came of that.

It was pointed out to me

However this is the reality check on one of my file servers running TrueOS which I prefer over vanilla FreeBSD.
