something weird
Hello,
I think I notice something weird on my last freebsd server and laptop : both have a few packages installed ; but there are very very few updates since the beginning of november and I'm a bit paranoïd, I wonder if this could be related to the security issue of nov 17th : http://www.freebsd.org/news/2012-compromise.html (although I do not use csup ; I use portsnap) For instance, as far as I understand it, there is a new version of py27-fail2ban available this morning http://www.freshports.org/commit.php...vn.freebsd.org But if I do portsnap fetch update and then pkg version I get that everything is up to date... moreover the version of py27-fail2ban is the same as given on freshports although nothing has been recompiled today (if I do portmaster -a it says all ports are up to date) So, I would like to know if someone of more experience finds this weird or not... (just for info, here is pkg version output) Code:
[root@z ~]# pkg version autoconf-2.69 = autoconf-wrapper-20101119 = automake-1.12.4 = automake-wrapper-20101119 = bash-4.2.37 = bison-2.5.1,1 = cvsup-without-gui-16.1h_4 = denyhosts-2.6_4 = dmidecode-2.11 = gettext-0.18.1.1 = gmake-3.82_1 = gnupg-2.0.19_2 = help2man-1.40.12 = libassuan-2.0.3 = libgcrypt-1.5.0_1 = libgpg-error-1.10 = libiconv-1.14 = libidn-1.25 = libksba-1.3.0 = libpcap-1.3.0 = libsigsegv-2.10 = libsmi-0.4.8 = libtool-2.4.2 = logrotate-3.7.9 = lynx-2.8.7.2,1 = m4-1.4.16_1,1 = ncftp-3.2.5 = ntp-4.2.6p5_1 = p5-Locale-gettext-1.05_3 = pcre-8.31_1 = perl-5.14.2_2 = pkg-1.0.2 = pkgconf-0.8.9 = popt-1.16 = portaudit-0.6.0 = portmanager-0.4.1_9 = portmaster-3.14_7 = proftpd-1.3.4b = pth-2.0.7 = py27-fail2ban-0.8.7.1 = python27-2.7.3_3 = rsync-3.0.9_2 = screen-4.0.3_14 = smartmontools-6.0 = tcpdump-4.3.0 = vim-lite-7.3.669 = wget-1.13.4_1 = |

What I did:
portsnap fetch extract I also removed all ports from /usr/ports And for me works. |

The way I read the Nov 17th announcement is you need to do "protsnap extract" instead of "portsnap update" for a period of time.
FWIW, I checked file /usr/ports/security/py-fail2ban/distinfo and versions are: fail2ban-fail2ban-0.8.6-0-g1efe1bc.tar.gz which seems agrees with the WEB site in pkg-descr has. I last did a portsnap a week ago though. |

Well I removed the whole /usr/ports and did portsnap fetch extract as advised by lumiwa. I don't know if this was enough, after some days, the updates began to be as frequent as before. No idea, but everything seems to be fine.
