[QUOTE=BSDfan666;4828]Uhh, I'm not sure why it's bailing out like that... just an idea, but have you tried running as root?

yes as root just now same thing
/usr/bin/cdrecord.bin: Medium is already formatted.
/usr/bin/cdrecord.bin: Cannot format medium

Maybe now its time to try to write then try to append

That's good news!

$ mkisofs -print-size test.iso
Put the number it returns into the argument below..

$ cdrecord dev=7,1,0 tsize=above-number(followed by an s) -v -sao -test.iso

Don't post old output when someone is trying to help you, be kind enough to open a console and run the commands..

Post the output here for kicks?

GNUMPlayer-1.0rc2.pkg is not a disk image with a valid file system... it's simply a file!

You need to create an image.. either ISO9660 or UDF.

EDIT: Woah, According to Wikipedia DVD+RW can be used like a normal block device.. you may be able to entirely eliminate cdrtools from the scenario and "newfs" it like any other device. (FFS file system even?)..

I don't know how Solaris names it's device nodes so I can't help you with that.

Default hi

hm

Do not worry about it i think for now we leave it simple as we have been doing lol
before i move over and try this block device you mention

Oh you mean i just cant for example copy
an avi file to the DVD+RW without making an iso first?

Would any of these iso command be helpful for me,

Make a directory, put the files you want on the DVD in it..
$ mkdir my-dvd
$ mv GNUMPlayer-1.0rc2.pkg my-dvd
Create an image, with Rockridge extensions.. (Support for Unix permissions.)
$ mkisofs -o test.iso -R my-dvd
Burn!
$ cdrecord dev=7,1,0 -v -sao test.iso

Do the "mkisofs -print-size" step I posted earlier if this fails, you might need it..

That's it then, you can mount the disk.. it should have that file on it.. I'm not sure how one mounts a disk on Solaris so I'll leave the step to you. (I assume you know how..).

Default oh

So in other words you say it has been written to the disk?

look at this

http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=1224356

i had tried stuff like mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s2 /cdrom
mount: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s2 or /cdrom, no such file or directory

Dont worry you have helped me plenty
it is just a matter of mounting it now i guess,

You know between you me and the entire forum
i should have never moved so fast to Open Solaris.
i should have kept BSD as my Desktop
as i have it as my primary web server now

Solaris is so much more complex and i feel so dumb using it lol

i thought if i ejected it and put the disk in again
a folder would automaticly pop up and mount like it does with DVD disks with data on them.

But this time no such luck.

Consider iostat -En, that should identify your drive.. or so Google claims.

Right about now, I'm not sure what you can do... I don't know why you went to Solaris, BSD is so much simpler.

hi

Thanks to you i am able to burn my DVD+RW.

Funny thing about the mount but when i rebooted my machine it automaticly mounted when i inserted the disk.
So i did not have to try and mount it lol

It never usually happened before with empty DVD+RW,
but now that we have something on it it was able to mount.

So i will practice with things like appending
data to the disk as well.

Thanks you for all your help
