Default Open Office vs. LibreOffice

Anyboy know of a particular reason to migrate other than hostility to Oracle?

Wrong forum. Slashdot's political threads are in that direction: -->

----

From the Makefile CVS log:
Quote:
The port is not yet ready and not linked
to the build yet, but it builds and works
fine. All of the OpenBSD specific patches
have been commited to upstream already.
----

Since Robert Nagy is the maintainer of both ports, you might be better off asking him, rather than just asking us to conjecture.

From LibreOffice's FAQ:

Quote:
Q: So is this a breakaway project?

A: Not at all. The Document Foundation will continue to be focused on developing, supporting, and promoting the same software, and it's very much business as usual. We are simply moving to a new and more appropriate organisational model for the next decade - a logical development from Sun's inspirational launch a decade ago.

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

I don't know but 33 developers left including the co-lead of the project. LibreOffice is backed by Google and RedHat.
Quote:
In an open letter, Marko Moeller, co-lead of OpenOffice.org highlighted how the status quo was going to be tough to maintain as the goals of The Document Foundation diverged from Oracle's. The letter states:

Oracle's official response to the announcement of The Document Foundation was clear —Oracle will continue OpenOffice.org as usual. The result is now indeed the lately postulated conflict of interest for those community members who are in charge of or representing project, but to whom it is not enough “to continue working as we always did."

Although it has been stressed several times that there will be collaboration on a technical level, and changes are possible — there is no indication from Oracle to change it's mind on the question of the project organization and management.

For those who want to achieve such a change, but see no realistic opportunity within the current project and are therefore involved in the TDF, unfortunately this results in an “either/or” question.
