Default Flash for Firefox

I just pkg_add'd Gnash, but upon starting my Firefox browser, it doesn't seem to be detected. I went to 'about: plugins' [space added between 'about:' and 'plugins' to interrupt automatic forum smiley face], and Gnash doesn't show as installed. Are there some files I have to move over or something?

Gnash does not support current standards. Per GNU's Webpage:
Quote:
Gnash is based on GameSWF, and supports most SWF v7 features and some SWF v8 and v9.

SWF v10 is not supported by GNU Gnash.

You might find something in an old undeadly article on Flash on OpenBSD useful:

If you need seamless integration of Flash, OpenBSD may not be your best choice.

Works as expected

Code:
$ uname -a
OpenBSD oko.bagdala2.net 4.8 GENERIC.MP#361 i386
$ pkg_info minitube
Information for inst:minitube-1.1p0

Comment:
standalone YouTube.com video browser/player

Description:
Minitube is a native YouTube client. With it you can watch YouTube
videos in a new way: you type a keyword, Minitube gives you an endless
video stream. Minitube does not require Flash Player. Minitube is
not about cloning the original YouTube web interface, it aims to
create a new TV-like experience.

Maintainer: Paul Irofti <pirofti@openbsd.org>, Jacob Meuser <jakemsr@openbsd.org>

WWW: http://flavio.tordini.org/minitube
but that really doesn't solve the lack of Flash for OpenBSD. The closest real solution (need very, very rarely for work) for me was swfdec which development has ceased about two years ago.
I have not tried on 4.8 since I am not using Firefox on OpenBSD. When I really, really need Flash I use Slax live CD.

I am actually willing to give up Flash, for the sake of security anyway. Like Oko if I really need it I'll boot up a LiveCD or external drive. Not sure how well VM is supposed in OpenBSD, but the idea of it seems like another security risk anyway

I haven’t used Flash at all since moving to OpenBSD a couple years ago. Unfortunately it means living without a few videos (though I have never come across anything else requiring Flash that was a necessity); but the lion’s share of my videos are on Youtube and similar sites and can be downloaded easily with www/youtube-dl and multimedia/get_flash_videos.

Eventually YouTube will move all their videos to using HTML5's video and audio elements and this will be a problem of the past. Some of the videos already have been ported over.

Yes, some video content is in MP4/WebM format.. but a large amount of it requires the Flash player.

There was a statement from one of the employees going as far as saying that the Flash player will not be replaced entirely.

Right now on OpenBSD you can use the Midori browser to play some stuff on YouTube, but it appears only MP4 content is working.. I only get audio for WebM content.

I typically just yell at people who post links to YouTube, it's easier.
