Default 3com 3c985B fiber card on openBSD

I am working on a research project, and we are using a 3com 3c985B fiber card to communicate with a switch. the computer that we are using originally had Fedora installed, but for this project we are required to use openBSD 4.6. when the computer had Fedora installed the 3com card worked just fine, but when we installed openBSD it doesn't work at all. the link lights are dark, the switch does not recognize the card, and on the ifconfig we are getting a status no carrier msg. I know that openBSD 4.6 claims to be compatible with the 3c985B card, and it says that the driver is installed. if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know.
