Are you using Linux or FreeBSD?

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

Apparently, the device requires a utility to switch it from acting as a usb disk device (containing the windows drivers) to a modem. It seems that the original poster has achieved this, by recompiling the tool under FreeBSD. The device then comes up as ugen.

The modprobe line is used in linux to force the umodem drivers to attach to the modem.

So, I guess he is asking if there is any way to force umodem to attach?
