Default NIS in a multi-system universe?

Hello,

I just bought an Everex desktop with gOS(googled-up ubuntu) and I already have some windoze boxes and laptops (2k home and vista home) and I'm trying to get an upgraded older system running to put FreeBSD 7... so I'm getting a bit of a collection and with a wife and five kids, I'd like to have all of login stuff centralized. I assume this means NIS, but if I run NIS from the FreeBSD box, are there clients for the windoze systems? I'm assuming gOS will play nicely, like any *nix system, but the Windows boxes have me concerned.

(while I'm wishing for things, I'd like a pony, children that don't bicker and all of the machine's "home" directories to point to an SAMBA mounted drive)

Thanks

JimB

No help? I thought everyone was here now?

Can you run logins for win2k and vista from nis (yellowpages)?

I think that creating a kerberos server is a also a good choice. AFAIK, windows also support kerberos authentication.

Something like this might work:

NIS -> SAMBA PDC -> Windows

I've never done this setup, but it seems like (in theory) it could function. I haven't seen anything that allows NIS in Windows beyond some Unix to Windows tools.
