Default A faster Web server: ripping out Apache for Nginx

For a nice article about Nginx see http://arstechnica.com/business/news...or-nginx.ars/1

This software is currently in the process of being implemented into the OpenBSD pantheon of built-in software. The initial import into the source tree was in September. It is not yet part of the build.

As the Web further matures, other HTTP stacks (other than Apache...) are becoming available. I, too, am looking at nginx, but Node.js is another high-performance alternative. Node was ported to FreeBSD in December 2009, OpenBSD in January 2011, & NetBSD in May 2011.

In my experience, just about any webserver is faster than Apache. Not to mention easier to configure, maintain, understand.

The de-facto standard often seems to suck: bind, sendmail, GCC, GNU binutils, screen, etc, etc.

It seems that projects have a sort of "gravity" which attract patches, and one a project grows in size the gravity grows with it, attracting patches both good and bad. At some point so many bad patched have accumulated (& have been committed) it will completely nullify the good patches.

I don't know if this is correct, these are just the results of my limited observations
